Labels, Food Web and Map

When you review the shoebox habitat rubric you will note that there are several important components besides the models to the shoebox habitat. Students must include:

Labels

The outside of the shoebox must have the name of the habitat on it somewhere. The label should be clearly visible and simple state the name of the habitat. On the inside of the shoebox, each type of animal and plant needs to be identified either by labels or by making a legend. You only need to label one of each type of your plants and animals. So if you include 5 pine trees in your shoebox you oly need to label 1. To see an example of the legend used for the coral reef shoebox click here.

Food Web

The students have used their plans in class to create a food web for their habitat. This information should be transferred to a piece of paper that is attached to the outside of the shoebox. To see an example of the food web created for the sample coral reef habitat click here.

Map

Students are to include a map of where the habitat can be found in the world. For some habitats this may be a single location such as the Amazon rain forest. For other locations the student may need to mark several locations on a world map. To see an example of a map click here.
